We turned O2 into a serious player in a whole new field.

Even a legacy brand can win in a brand-new business.

Everyone knows O2 as a telecom operator. But the company wanted to offer businesses something more: cybersecurity solutions. At first, it did not really click. The breakthrough came with one key insight: don’t talk to technicians – talk to management. They are
the ones making investment decisions. That shift changed everything. In just two years, the number of companies that spontaneously associated O2 with cybersecurity grew more than fivefold.

We convinced companies that cybersecurity is not an IT issue. It is a survival issue

We found the right audience

Cybersecurity is ultimately a management matter. Leadership decides what gets prioritised, and what gets funded. So we stopped talking to tech specs and started speaking directly to decision-makers. The impact was immediate.

O2 doubled its market share

Once we refocused articles, podcasts, newsletters and LinkedIn communication under the O2 CyberNews brand, O2’s share among companies using cybersecurity solutions rose from 10% to 21% in just two years.

More choose O2

Today, O2 is a far more relevant brand in cybersecurity. According to Ipsos, its brand image improved across all tracked attributes – especially in making clients feel they are making the right decision.

Useful content wins attention

A full 78% of O2 CyberNews visitors left feeling they had learned something useful. We made complex topics easy to understand, without resorting to fear tactics.

We got into people’s ears

O2 CyberNews also includes two podcasts: one more expert-led, the other more lifestyle-driven and focused on cybercrime stories. That helped us bring cybersecurity into people’s headphones, cars and everyday lives.

We shape the conversation

O2 went from being “just” a telecom operator to becoming a credible voice in an entirely different industry – one confident enough to speak not only to clients, but also to experts from competing companies.

The challenge

O2 needed to convince mid-sized and large companies that its solutions could protect them from cyber threats. But according to Ipsos research, O2 had 0% top-of-mind association with cybersecurity among companies.

  • How do you connect an established brand with
    a completely new topic?
  • How do you stand out in cybersecurity – not just against other telecoms, but also against specialist providers?
  • How do you become a voice that actively shapes the category?

The solution

The key was finding the right insight: Cybersecurity is
a management issue. We built O2 CyberNews as a content hub aimed at the people who actually decide which IT security solutions a company buys. With smart, relevant content, O2 became not just a source of information, but
a trusted partner.

  • We redirected the whole media ecosystem
toward the right audience.
  • We made complex topics simple and approachable.
  • Within two years, we turned O2 into a significant player
in the cybersecurity market.
